Development and application of low carbon concrete
About the Project
Civil infrastructure assets are a nation’s lifeline and vital for societal and economic growth. A key challenge facing the construction industry is to reach Net Zero towards a circular economy and provide cost-effective, sustainable and resilient infrastructure. To address this challenge and urgent need, this PhD project will develop low carbon concrete material with recycled material, waste materials and industrial by-products. To maintain comparable material properties, nano-materials such as graphene, graphene oxide, nano-carbon tubes can be used in the mixture. The bonding between newly developed low carbon concrete and steel reinforcement will be considered in the project to support the future application of low carbon concrete in load-bearing structures. The project will involve experimental programme and theoretical analysis.
