Applications accepted all year round. Self-Funded PhD Students Only
About the Project
The project aims to develop innovative, sustainable, and environmentally friendly coating systems that can enhance the functional performance of packaging materials while reducing their environmental impact. The project will focus on the design and formulation of green coating materials with desirable properties such as improved barrier performance against moisture, oxygen, and contaminants, enhanced mechanical and surface protection, biosecurity and antimicrobial performance, and potential…
biodegradability or recyclability. The developed coatings will be applied to suitable packaging substrates and systematically characterised in terms of their physical, chemical, mechanical, barrier, and functional properties. The concept of “smart” coatings will further explore the incorporation of responsive or active functionalities to provide additional protection and improved packaging performance. Overall, the research seeks to develop high-performance green coating technologies that can contribute to the transition toward safer, more sustainable, and resource-efficient packaging solutions.
