Dietitian/Nutritionist - Pediatric Endocrinology
Position Summary
Provides nutritional care of individuals in health or disease, which includes the application of the science and art of human nutrition in selecting and obtaining food.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide Division providers with nutritional assessment and follow up nutritional care plans for patients with endocrine and metabolism disorders.
- Provide nutrition instruction, support, and educational materials to optimize patient and/or parent compliance.
- Assess patients’ dietary intake manually and with the use of computer software programs.
- Document all outpatient clinic and telephone contacts in the patient’s medical record.
- Attend weekly diabetes clinic and provide education on diabetic diet and carbohydrate counting: adjust patient meal plans as necessary.
- Coordinate education methods and materials with inpatient diabetes team.
- Serve as nutritional resource for families, schools, and daycares regarding diabetes and weight management meal plans.
- Provide nutritional education to patients with diabetes, obesity, failure-to-thrive, and other endocrine and metabolism disorders.
- Provide telephone follow up to patients as appropriate.
CDE Functions:
- Promote self-management to achieve individualized behavior and treatment goals that reduce risk and optimize health outcomes.
- Possess distinct and specialized knowledge to promote quality care for persons with diabetes.
- Provide education related to diabetes and the disease process; medication, diet and nutritional monitoring; foot care, prevention and care of complications; blood glucose monitoring and the techniques of self-monitoring and injection
- Work with patients to develop long-term strategies for maintaining a healthy diet, monitoring medications and increasing physical activity.
Working Conditions:
Job Location/Working Conditions: Normal office environment.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree - Dietetics
Certifications/Professional Licenses: Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Registered Dietitian - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Registered Dietitian - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
Work Experience: Adult Or Pediatric Dietetics (2 Years)
More About This Job - Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support Certification or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.
- Registered Dietitian license for state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on work location(s).
- Starting in 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to sit for the registration exam which is needed to receive a Registered Dietitian License.
