Digital Accessibility Coordinator
Job Description
The Digital Accessibility Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month position located on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching, the Digital Accessibility Coordinator coordinates institutional efforts to ensure that South Piedmont's digital content, instructional materials, communications, and educational technologies are digitally accessible, inclusive, and aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, and Section 508 standards.
This role provides direct consultation, facilitates training and professional development, and delivers actionable recommendations to faculty and staff to support best practices and ongoing adherence to digital accessibility requirements. The Coordinator conducts accessibility audits, guides the remediation of digital materials-including course components, PDFs, HTML content, and multimedia-and leads solution-focused discussions to address instructional challenges while improving the usability, accessibility, and overall quality of digital learning environments.
In addition to accessibility compliance, this role supports instructional design efforts across the institution, including course design and redesign, faculty consultation on pedagogy and learning technologies, and the development of professional learning resources. The Digital Accessibility Coordinator also oversees accessibility within the Canvas learning management system, including at the institutional, sub-account, and individual course levels. Working directly with instructors, the Coordinator identifies and implements necessary corrections to elevate accessibility standards and ensure full compliance.
