Digital Accessibility Specialist, Senior
The Digital Accessibility Specialist, Senior serves as a centralized resource supporting University schools and administrative units in meeting digital accessibility requirements and standards across web, document, multimedia, and digital content platforms.
This is a temporary, full-time, contractual position.
This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing structured accessibility remediation efforts across units, establishing consistent workflows and expectations, providing training and guidance, and serving as a primary point of contact for accessibility-related questions and issue resolution. The role helps ensure a coordinated and sustainable institutional approach to digital accessibility compliance and continuous improvement.
The position works collaboratively with stakeholders across the University to provide guidance, track progress, clarify requirements, resolve ambiguities, and support implementation efforts related to accessibility standards, policies, and best practices.
In limited high-risk or complex situations, the individual may also assist directly with accessibility evaluation and remediation activities.
UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.
Primary Duties:
- Establishes and oversees structured digital accessibility remediation workflows across schools and administrative units.
- Develops and communicates accessibility expectations, standards, priorities, and remediation timelines.
- Tracks remediation progress across units and follows up to ensure timely completion of accessibility-related initiatives and requirements.
- Provides training, guidance, and consultation related to digital accessibility standards, policies, tools, and best practices.
- Serves as a centralized point of contact for accessibility-related questions and works to resolve ambiguities and implementation challenges.
- Collaborates with content owners, technical teams, communications staff, and leadership to support accessibility compliance efforts.
- Reviews digital content and platforms for accessibility concerns and provides recommendations for remediation and process improvement.
- Assists in developing documentation, guidance materials, reporting mechanisms, and institutional processes related to digital accessibility.
- Helps identify high-risk accessibility issues and supports prioritization of remediation efforts across units.
- In limited complex or high-risk cases, may directly assist with accessibility remediation of web content, documents, multimedia, or digital applications.
- Monitors evolving accessibility standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices and helps incorporate them into institutional guidance and workflows.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, information technology, web development, instructional technology, public administration, or a related field.
Experience: Four (4) years of related professional experience in digital accessibility, web content management, compliance coordination, web development, communications, instructional design, or related fields.
Preferred experience includes:
- Accessibility standards such as WCAG and ADA Title II requirements
- Training delivery and stakeholder support
- Accessibility evaluation tools and remediation workflows
- Cross-functional project coordination
Certification/Licensure: Relevant accessibility certifications such as CPACC, WAS, or equivalent are preferred but not required.
