Salary Range: $110,000 - $114,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary
The Director of Business Contracts functions as the Primary Business Contracts Officer for UTSA, and provides advanced leadership, direction, and management of the University's business contracting program. This role is responsible for the overall oversight and effectiveness of the University's business contracting function, including operations planning and assessment, contract review and negotiation, development of contracting strategies, regulatory compliance management, process innovation and improvement, budgeting, staff development, and staff direction and supervision.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversees and manages the University's overall business contracting process; provides effective leadership, assistance, and guidance in all areas of the University's business contracting process.
- Reviews business agreements and associated documents for the University; analyzes, revises, and/or drafts terms and conditions of for an unlimited range of agreements to ensure protection of the University, compliance with applicable state laws, UT System policies, and University regulations.
- Leads and facilitates business contract negotiations on complex, strategic contracts to effectively and clearly resolve contracting projects, and to ensure appropriate protection of the University; negotiate directly with business entities, including their legal representatives, in completion of a wide range of contracting processes.
- Understands and stays up to date on all applicable regulatory requirements and applicable rules, policies and guidance, and assure, or recommend a course of action to assure, that the university is in compliance.
- Coordinates with executive offices, purchasing staff, UT System Offices, and other agencies to ensure compliance with institutional, system, state and federal contracting policies, regulations, requirements and legislation.
- Reviews and analyzes an unlimited range of contracting scopes of work, and provides direction and leadership to contracting staff, the Purchasing Office, and applicable University departments in developing complex scopes of work; research, redraft, and develop scope documents as necessary to establish clarity and to secure the best interests of the University.
- Assists the Purchasing Office in drafting strategic procurements, including assistance with developing terms, conditions, scope, and specifications necessary for completion of the resulting agreements; develops resulting agreements; coordinate with and provides direction to Purchasing Office staff on business contract policies and procedures.
- Manages UTSA's business contract policies, procedures, and practices, and implements new policies and procedures to ensure an effective and compliant contracting program; effectively analyzes risk and efficiency factors in determining contractual requirements.
- Identifies process improvement opportunities and leads and facilitates continuous improvement initiatives, including recommending and leading opportunities to further the University's contracting strategies.
- Oversees all personnel operations within the Business Contracts Office to ensure effective and compliant operations, including oversight of organizational structures, workloads, training, and development.
- Supervises budget operations, prepares budget recommendations, and monitors expenditures of the Business Contracts Unit.
- Oversees the University's business contract training program.
- Performs certain legal research and analysis as required to facilitate contract execution.
- Manages business contracting data and metrics and provide business contracting data reports to applicable University executives, faculty/staff, and other applicable agencies.
- Represents at the Business Contracts Office on committees and councils related to contracting work.
- Completes individual routine contracting transactions or take other actions necessary to complete departmental work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Seven (7) of related work experience to include:
- Direct experience drafting, negotiating, and finalizing high-level business contracts.
- Supervisory experience in business contracting at an organization similar in scope to UTSA.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Working Conditions
- Office Environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasional.
This position will work both on campus and remotely in Texas. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
