Position Summary
Trinity is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in the capital city of Hartford, Connecticut. The college maintains a rigorous academic profile complemented by a vibrant co-curricular program. With more than 2,100 full-time undergraduate students, representing forty-three states and ninety-one countries, we consider our location in a culturally and socioeconomically diverse capital city to be among Trinity’s most distinctive assets; and we cultivate strong connections with our surrounding neighbors and with institutions and organizations throughout Hartford and the region. As a preeminent liberal arts college in an urban setting, Trinity College prepares students to be bold, independent thinkers who lead transformative lives.
The Director will manage a fundraising professional and a program coordinator, and maintain a personal portfolio of 80-100 parent prospects, focusing on cultivating and securing commitments at the $100,000+ level, as well as increasing annual giving, particularly gifts of $10,000 or more. Success in this role will be measured by ambitious growth in both the pace and scale of parent commitments. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned major gift fundraiser and a collaborative leader with excellent communication skills, and a deep appreciation for the role parents play in advancing the mission of a liberal arts institution.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of the full pool of parent prospects with major gift potential, including oversight of individual solicitation strategies and tracking of the parent giving pipeline.
- Strategic oversight of Trinity’s parent philanthropy programs, including the Parents Leadership Council.
- Facilitation of prospect strategy meetings, ensuring effective use of College leadership and key volunteers in parent engagement.
- Development of regional and on-campus experiences and communications to deepen connectivity and inspire philanthropy among Trinity parents.
- Work closely with the ED of Alumni and Family Giving to develop and achieve Parent Fund goals.
- Collaboration across Advancement, including Major Gifts, Athletic Development, Principal Gifts, and Stewardship to ensure coordinated and comprehensive parent engagement.
Qualifications
- This position requires a proven track record of soliciting and closing six- and seven-figure gifts or closely related and transferable experience. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of seven to ten years of professional experience as a performance-driven gift officer within higher education or another nonprofit organization.
- Experience mentoring high-performing team members; developing successful programs; and superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education and have an appreciation for the mission of Trinity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the organization to move projects forward.
- Strong sense of personal and professional integrity and work ethic.
- Computer fluency including Microsoft Office Suite, donor database software, and query tools.
- A demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
