Director, Institutional Giving, Institutional Advancement
Under the direction of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director of Institutional Giving provides strategic and operational leadership for the University's corporation, foundation, and government fundraising program, in support of the institution's strategic priorities. The Director of Institutional Giving will develop and execute strategies to engage donors, ensure compliance, and manage fundraising activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic leadership: Develops and executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy to increase financial support from foundation, government, and corporate donors. Serves as an integral member of the leadership team for the Division of Institutional Advancement. Works with the Vice President to engage donors and stays informed on trends impacting higher education.
- Operational leadership: Sets an annual calendar for grant activities, maintains relationships with university departments for compliance, creates processes for proposal development, and supervises staff.
- Identify funding opportunities: Collaborates with university leaders to identify needs and prospects, cultivates relationships, and advises on grant matters.
- Develop proposals: Provides leadership in proposal development, coordinates site visits, and manages external writers.
- Manage grants: Manages a portfolio of donors, assists in grant implementation, and collaborates on communications strategies.
- Other Duties: Occasional evening and weekend work, and other assigned duties.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Key fundraising concepts, grants process, expert grant writing, institutional funding sources, experience with academic programs, pre-award research, and supervisory experience.
- Ability to use office technology like Microsoft Office.
Abilities and Skills:
- Outstanding communication, relationship building, grant writing, organizational skills, project management, and team leadership.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, or related field required (advanced degree preferred). Certificates in fundraising desirable.
Experience:
Ten years in development and grant writing, particularly in higher education. Extensive experience with funding from foundations, corporations, and government. Minimum 5 years managing staff.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid California driver's license required.
