JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Academic Advising and Off Campus Programs for the School of Art will be responsible for overseeing academic advising, the foreign exchange program, and selected co-curricular opportunities.
The Director of Academic Advising and Off Campus Programs serves on the School’s leadership team and participates in both School-specific and campus-wide strategic planning, policy development, and assessment initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing and implementing an advising program aligned with current best practices for equity in higher education
- Coordinating academic recovery, retention, and graduation initiatives
- Leading and managing the advising and exchange teams
- Overseeing registration processes for BFA and incoming exchange students
- Co-advising students in the School of Art
- Preparing and assisting students in the School of Art to plan and undertake courses and co-curricular activities consistent with their educational goals
- Addressing student issues
- Overseeing the review of student progress and standing
- Designing processes for appropriate resolution of student petitions
- Supporting collaboration among the Schools of Art, Architecture, and Engineering
- Maintaining academic records
- Promoting additional off-campus opportunities including the Yale Norfolk summer residency and the Rothenberg travel fellowship; coordinating candidate selection
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
- Exceptional organization skills
- Significant experience advising students
- Ability to work with faculty and staff to help students succeed
- Ability to work with students to develop opportunities to expand their experiences at Cooper Union and other institutions
- Experience collaborating with faculty and staff on the development of inter-School opportunities for students
- Ability to track, review, and articulate student degree
EDUCATION
Master’s Degree or relevant experience.
Annual salary range - $80,000 - $95,000
This is a non-union position.
