JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Advancement Services plays a critical role in supporting The Division of University Advancement and Texas Southern University’s mission by managing the operational backbone of fundraising and donor engagement efforts for the Advancement Services department. This position oversees gift processing, data integrity, reporting, and advancement systems to ensure accurate and efficient support for fundraising strategies. The Director supervises the Gift Accountant and the Advancement Reporting & Data Analyst, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and innovation in advancement operations.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise in systems and the ability to manage complex workflows while ensuring compliance with university policies and industry standards.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Gift Accountant and Advancement Reporting & Data Analyst.
  • Oversee accurate and timely processing of all gifts and pledges, including cash, stock, and electronic contributions.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, IRS regulations, and CASE standards.
  • Maintain accuracy and security of advancement database (Raiser’s Edge NXT and related systems).
  • Implement data policies and procedures for quality control and integrity.
  • Direct creation of weekly, monthly, and annual gift reports for leadership and campaign tracking.
  • Provide data-driven insights to inform fundraising strategies and donor segmentation.
  • Develop and refine workflows for gift processing, reporting, and donor tracking.
  • Collaborate with IT and vendors to optimize database functionality and reporting tools.
  • Partner with donor relations staff to ensure accurate gift acknowledgments and stewardship reporting.
  • Assist in preparing donor lists for solicitations, mailings, and events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $87,339.81-$111,358.25

Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field required.

Preferred: Master’s degree preferred.

Required Licensing/Certification

None Required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of gift processing, fundraising data management, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive data with confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Work Experience

Required: A minimum of 5 years in business operations, advancement services, fundraising operations, or related field.

Preferred: Experience with Banner, Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM systems preferred. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Routine office environment with occasional event support. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and handle light lifting.
