Director of Clinical Chemistry FH-1860
As the Director of Clinical Chemistry, the incumbent will oversee the scientific, technical, and administrative operations of the Chemistry, Point-of-Care Testing sections, and selected immunology and toxicology testing performed in the chemistry section. They will provide consultative support to physicians regarding test utilization and interpretation, enhance computational pathology by integrating test results with the electronic medical record, and ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. Additionally, they will oversee the implementation of new technologies to improve laboratory quality and participate in quality control and assurance programs related to these areas. The incumbent will also engage in departmental activities, including collaboration with clinical departments at affiliated hospitals and Brown University conferences, and potential membership in relevant hospital committees.
The incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain an independent research program in the general area of clinical chemistry or subspecialty. He/she will also be expected to participate in teaching residents and fellows, supervising clerkships for medical students at Brown University, and providing instructional support to the medical technologist training program in the Department of Pathology. Candidates should have experience in a university hospital or comparable institution with an active clinical chemistry service. Those candidates applying at the rank of Associate Professor must have a national reputation and scholarly achievements appropriate to this level.
The applicant should possess an MD, DO, or MBBS with board certification (or board eligibility) from the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology or AP/CP, with subspecialty certification in Chemical Pathology or equivalent experience. Incumbents with a Ph.D. degree must be certified by the American Association of Clinical Chemistry or the National Registry of Certified Chemists with a 5 year experience requirement and qualified to serve as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Rhode Island and meet all state licensure and other requirements necessary for the practice of medicine in Rhode Island. Candidates must have experience directing a high-complexity laboratory, preferably in a university hospital or comparable institution. Candidates applying for this position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor must have reputation and scholarly achievements appropriate to this level.
