Job Summary:
This position plans, executes, and oversees communication activities for men’s basketball, and other assigned sports/areas. The incumbent provides guidance and leadership to staff; develops ideas to promote program initiatives, storylines and accomplishments. This position will also manage and grow media relations locally, regionally and nationally.
Job Description:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provides leadership and communicates content strategy for Ole Miss men’s basketball and other assigned sports/areas.
- Establishes standards and policies for website and social media accounts.
- Develops original story ideas and edits feature articles for a wide range of platforms.
- Designs and produces a wide range of publications.
- Ensures program statistics are up to date and accurate.
- Delivers strategies for digital campaigns and fosters ideas for creative content and new initiatives.
- Cultivates and manages relationships with local, regional and national media representatives.
- Distributes and pitches story ideas and messages.
- Produces game notes, press releases, and other media materials.
- Coordinates home athletics events and organizes and supervises statisticians and workers.
- Coordinates media obligations for coaches and student-athletes.
- Updates digital content and team information, including bios and statistics.
- Manages team content on official website and related channels.
- Collaborates with other athletics units to populate team social media accounts.
- Organizes photographic needs and updates physical and digital archives.
- Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with department, University, Southeastern Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- 3-4 years of collegiate sports information experience
- Experience working with men’s basketball
- Established relationships with regional and national media
