Director of Human Resources
Position Overview
Albany Law School invites applications for a collaborative and experienced Director of Human Resources to lead all facets of the HR function. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure that human resource programs effectively support the mission, culture, and long-term sustainability of the institution. The Director partners with senior leadership to align workforce strategy with institutional goals while ensuring operational excellence across recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, compliance, performance management, and organizational development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate all aspects of the human resources function.
- Partner with leadership to translate strategic and tactical business plans into actionable HR initiatives.
- Develop workforce planning models to identify talent gaps and implement succession planning and professional development programs.
- Lead recruitment strategies and identify effective external talent sources.
- Design and administer competitive compensation and benefit programs; monitor salary structures for market comparability.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee HRIS operations and reporting to support institutional planning.
- Manage employee relations matters, conduct investigations, and facilitate resolutions.
- Develop and maintain HR policies and the Staff Handbook.
- Manage HR department budget and staff development.
- Lead inclusive hiring and employment practices.
- Provide coaching and consultation to managers across the institution.
- Oversee ADA accommodations and ergonomic assessments.
Salary and Benefits
The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000-$130,000 per year. The salary offered will be based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and in consideration of internal equity. We offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental and vision insurance, employer paid disability and life insurance coverage, 5% retirement contribution, CDTA bus pass, and generous time off.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
- HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CEBS) or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive HR experience; higher education experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple HR disciplines.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
