Job Details
Randolph-Macon College invites applications for an experienced and collaborative Director of Information Technology Services (ITS). Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Director provides operational leadership for the College’s information technology infrastructure, service delivery, incident response, and IT administrative processes.
The Director of ITS oversees staff and contractors within the Technology Services and Operations group; manages IT budgets, assets, and projects; collaborates closely with the CIO and IT leadership team on data management and information security; and serves as a representative of the CIO as needed. As a senior member of the IT leadership team, the Director works collaboratively across campus to ensure that technology aligns with and advances the College’s mission, strategic plan, and operational needs, while fostering a secure, reliable, accessible, and high-value technological environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
Strategic Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CIO and represent the CIO and the department when appropriate.
- Consult with the CIO on the development of policies and procedures related to technology use, data governance, and information security.
- Participate in the development and ongoing refinement of IT strategic and operational plans.
- Recommend, plan, and manage critical technology initiatives and projects.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervise IT staff and contractors supporting infrastructure services, technology services, audio-visual services, application management, and user services.
- Collaborate with leaders in data management and information security to promote innovation and confidence in secure, trustworthy services.
- Cultivate and manage strong relationships with vendors and external partners.
- Participate in evaluating, selecting, and integrating new technologies that enhance teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations.
Operational Leadership
- Implement the IT strategic plan to ensure technology supports the College’s broader strategic goals and complies with established policies.
- Participate directly in the design, implementation, and maintenance of campus-wide systems and services, including network infrastructure, servers, applications, endpoint management, desktop and user support, printing services, telecommunications (VoIP), and audio-visual technologies.
- Ensure high levels of system availability, security, and user satisfaction, including participation in a regular on-call rotation.
- Manage IT budgets, resources, and vendor relationships effectively.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to streamline administrative processes and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience, required. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field, preferred.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology.
- Demonstrated leadership experience delivering IT services that support academic and/or administrative objectives.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and strategic planning skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Direct experience leading managed services relationships.
- Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
- Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with technologies and services including, but not limited to:
- Microsoft 365 administration and Office products
- Access control systems
- Wired and wireless networking, including VRF design and management
- Application and database server lifecycle management
- Virtualized server environments and backup systems
- Endpoint management and service management tools
- Customer support, instructional technology support, and technology training
