Director of Instructional Technology and Design
The Director of Instructional Technology and Design provides leadership for the College's award-winning distance education program, and supervises the development of interactive media, online and face to face courses utilizing the college's learning management system (LMS), assists with the deployment of synchronous and asynchronous courses, and serves as a secondary LMS administrator. This position also coordinates the development and training for instructional technologies through meaningful and timely professional development programs.
- Provide leadership and planning for the College's distance education courses and programs.
- Supervise employees assigned to Instructional Technology and Design including delegation of assignments, resolving concerns and completing performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures of the College, NC-SARA, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and applicable State and Federal agencies.
- Oversee the implementation of the college's quality assurance efforts with regard to online instruction, maintain necessary records and submit all required reports.
- Participate in on-going planning activities, assist in the development of departmental goals and action plans in cooperation with the Dean of Learning Resources.
- Supervise LMS administrator(s), instructional designer(s) and other staff, act as backup in any role and provide student support if needed.
- Prepare and submit annual budgets for the department. Periodically reconcile expenses with allocated budget and request adjustments if necessary.
- Prepare and/or delegate the preparation of procurement materials to obtain goods and services needed for routine operation of the department. Act as liaison with 3rd party service providers.
- Collaborate with other college departments to address various student information, advising, and learning support needs.
- Remain current with innovative developments in instructional technology and update faculty and staff on these developments through classes, workshops, and one-on-one training as appropriate.
- Identify, write, and administer grant and revenue generating proposals consistent with the college strategic plan.
- Work with all academic departments to integrate distance education and alternative course delivery options as appropriate.
- Work with various departments to expand the reach of online programs and increase enrollment.
- Attend meetings and other activities, both internal and external, to represent RCBC Instructional Technology and Design as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.
Education Required:
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field.
Education Preferred:
Terminal degree in any discipline plus a strong background in a degree field or discipline taught at the college. Holding one or more current Quality Matters? roles such as: Peer Reviewer, Master Reviewer, APPQMR or IYOC Facilitator is also a plus.
Experience Required:
- Three or more years' experience teaching online classes with knowledge of online course development.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a Distance Learning environment, preferably using the Blackboard 9.1 course management software.
- Experience in managing budgets, supervising employees in a collective bargaining environment and working collaboratively with faculty in an academic setting.
Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills as well as demonstrated expertise with relevant computer applications
- Knowledge of and experience in application of best practices in educational technologies, instructional design, and quality online course delivery
- Work effectively with faculty, staff and the college community, supervise employees
- Management of relationships and projects with third party service providers
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in problem-solving
- Strong instructional, analytical and problem-solving skills including the Proven ability to coordinate and direct multiple projects with diverse faculty and staff
- Ability to interpret policy and establish methods and procedures; assign duties, promote efficiency; collaborate with relevant leadership regarding process improvements
- Demonstrated knowledge of Regional College Accreditation requirements and best practices as related to educational technologies and online education
