Director of IT Operations

The Director of IT Operations will help lead the strategic and operational direction of our client services and multimedia teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering continuous improvement in support of the UCR School of Medicine and UCR Health. This role champions business priorities, optimizes resource allocation, and drives performance within a dynamic, cross-functional environment. The ideal candidate has 6-10 years of progressive IT leadership experience, preferably within a healthcare environment, and a proven track record in managing IT operations for clinical services. Expertise in hardware and software lifecycle in a healthcare setting. Strong expertise in cloud security, cloud computing integration, information architecture, web services security, and healthcare IT systems is essential. An in-depth understanding of HIPAA and other relevant regulations is required.

This position is classified as hybrid with 3 days on-site and 2 days remote. The full salary range for the Operations Manager is $100,100 to $190,500 annually. However, the pay scale for this position is UP TO $175,000 annually. UCR bases salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Requirements:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field. Required.
  • Experience Requirements: 6 - 10 years of related experience. Required. Minimum of 5 years of Hardware Lifecycle Management. Required. 6 -10 years or more experience managing an Information technology organization. Preferred. Minimum of 5 years of extensive experience with health systems and technologies. Preferred. Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred.
  • Special Conditions: Must pass a background check. Required. Exercise the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information. Required. Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours. Required. Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required.
  • Minimum Requirements: In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function. Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems. Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software. Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of conceptual database design. Knowledge of test application code in client server environment. Has solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff. Has solid knowledge of related principles and concepts to provide solutions to more complex and diverse information systems issues. Solid knowledge of the applications programming development function. Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel. Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support team members in continuous learning, build organizational capacity, develops high-potential employees for growth, and maintains a highly skilled, engaged workforce through aligned resource plans. (20%)
  • Participates in developing and monitoring operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning. (15%)
  • Participates in the development and monitoring of information systems policies and procedures for department or department operations. (15%)
  • Recommends hiring of new employees, salary actions, terminations, and performance ratings. (10%)
  • Helps analyze the needs of functional departments and helps to establish priorities for feasibility studies and systems design and implementation to develop new and/or modify information processing systems. (10%)
  • Coordinates activities of professional staff with functional departments involved in system requirements, techniques, and controls. (10%)
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, benchmarks, and best practices for hardware lifecycle management. (10%)
  • Champions and secures cross-functional support for strategic business plans, transforming strategy into actionable requirements to help support the business. (10%)
