Summary:
Responsible for overseeing and optimizing administrative, financial and operational functions for the institutional unit assigned. This role ensures efficient resource allocation, budget management, and compliance with institutional and regulatory policies to support the academic, clinical, and research missions. The director collaborates with leadership, faculty, and staff to drive strategic initiatives and operational excellence. Position includes thorough review, management and planning of financial and human resources, design, implementation and direction of new policies.
Principal Functional Responsibilities:
Operational and Strategic Leadership:
Provide leadership for operations, communications, strategic initiatives, creative and economic endeavors. Establish streamlined processes and procedures within the assigned area. Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, space and resource allocation, research operations, and coordination of people and resources. Prioritize and manage multiple projects and competing interests with efficiency and relative independence. Participate in the accreditation process for assigned unit.
Financial Management and Budgeting:
Responsible for fiscal planning and oversight of assigned area. Develop and execute a budget and operational plan including oversight of the annual budget process. Facilitate budget development by engaging and coordinating with key constituents to balance the delivery of programs with available financial resources. Optimize financial resources to support academic programs, research, and faculty development. Track expenditures, reconcile P-cards, financial forecasting, variance reporting and develop financial reports as needed.
Human Resources and Workforce Management:
Represent the college, department or institution on all personnel matters, hiring, offers and negotiations, contracts, strategic hires, start-up packages, position planning, position descriptions, performance management, and faculty by laws matters. Serve as a liaison with Human Resources and Legal.
Stakeholder and External Relations:
Liaise with internal and external constituencies, utilizing excellent interpersonal (oral and written) communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, collaborators, investigators, team members, students, and funding agencies.
Policies and Procedures:
Design and implement policies and procedures and work with appropriate groups across the institution to address operational issues. Develop project plans including goals and deadlines, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and allocation of available resources. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures and contributing to the development and implementation of new strategies, policies, and procedures.
Other Duties:
May manage or assist with events for assigned unit. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated superior writing and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in higher education administration, business administration, or related field
- Experience in higher education setting
- Experience in finance, grants, contracts and research, academic, human resources, faculty affairs, and accounting processes, or operations management
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment.

Starting Salary Range:
$78,286 – $92,680, commensurate with experience
