DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Information Technology Services, the Director of Technology Infrastructure leads, oversees, and executes the planning, analysis, design, implementation, configuration, installation, testing, administration, maintenance, and support of the district’s technology infrastructure, including data center facilities, cloud hosting, virtualization platforms, systems and servers, storage, networking, and telecommunications.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- Develops and implements comprehensive IT infrastructure strategies to support business goals, requirements, and operations. (E)
- Ensures the reliability and performance of the organization’s network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, wireless, and VPN. (E)
- Oversees the design and management of cloud infrastructure and services, ensuring scalability, security, and performance; monitor and manage cloud costs. (E)
- Oversees monitoring of the infrastructure by reviewing utilization reports to support technology management decision making and to support operational needs; submit reports to various governmental agencies as required. (E)
- Oversees infrastructure software and hardware upgrades. (E)
- Oversees management, maintenance, and troubleshooting of messaging systems including email, team collaboration systems, and file sharing repositories. (E)
- Working with information security personnel, oversees implementation and maintenance of IT security measures to protect against cyber threats and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and district security standards, using industry standard best practices. (E)
- Works with other ITS managers and staff to develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure system availability during emergencies. (E)
- Ensures all critical systems are backed up in a timely manner, and that backups are tested on a regular basis. (E)
- Manages the ITS department’s budget and expenditures on infrastructure.
- Coordinates and oversees work of vendors and external consultants; develops and maintains relationships with vendors and negotiates contracts for services and support. (E)
- Oversees the planning, management, and maintenance of the telecommunications services of the college, including data and voice circuits and lines, phones, carrier contracts, and voice services. Monitors ongoing telecommunications costs. (E)
- Provides technical guidance and support to administration, faculty, and support staff on issues related to technology infrastructure. (E)
- Manages the ITS infrastructure team, including network, systems administration, cloud, telecommunications personnel, and other teams as assigned. (E)
- Reviews and verifies the work of infrastructure staff for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standard operating procedures and specifications. (E)
- Oversees the development and maintenance of infrastructure documentation. (E)
- Contributes to the development of policies, procedures and security strategies, audits their effective use, and monitors compliance. (E)
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of updates and changes delivered for systems infrastructure by vendors; keeps current with new trends and innovations in systems administration. (E)
- Performs other managerial duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, management information systems, computer engineering or a related field.
- Three (3) years of recent full-time experience leading a technology infrastructure team.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in an educational environment.

WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides work direction to classified employees, student workers, hourly workers, and others as required.

- Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
