Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Disability Adviser to join Student Services, People Services, Administrative Division.

The Disability Adviser will work in collaboration with the Disability and Accessibility Services team to facilitate support and academic adjustments for students with a disability, injury, health or mental health condition; and contributes to related aspects of equitable access and participation for students.

Student Services is responsible for providing a range of services to support the health and wellbeing of students in areas of Accommodation, Chaplaincy, Counselling, Disability and Accessibility Support, International Student Support, Welfare and Financial Support Services and QUT Medical Centres..

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to a degree in Disability Studies, Inclusive Education, or Allied Health with subsequent relevant experience.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of disability upon teaching and learning processes at a tertiary level.
  3. Proven ability to identify learning barriers and impacts, in response to a broad range of presentations/conditions and determine appropriate reasonable adjustments.
  4. Demonstrated highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, combined with strong organisational abilities to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently under pressure.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team, and to collaborate across organisational boundaries in a large organisation.
  6. Demonstrated sound knowledge of federal and state government legislation and initiatives relating to disability, particularly as they apply to students in higher education.
