Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Dispatcher in Public Safety.

Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and experience in one of the following areas: communications, switchboard exchange operations, clerical accounting, billing or working with the general public.
Preferred: Previous dispatch experience.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Takes and dispatches routine and emergency calls by utilizing the computerized aided dispatching (CAD) system and/or recorded phones as a means of unit safety and records management, while also using two-way radios to public safety units; and including following protocol with tip-line phone.
- Acts as backup operator of PBX phone switchboard by providing exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large while serving as an informational contact for the University; by directing and providing customers the information regarding the university activities, office hours, and determining which department/area or person the caller needs.
- Operates computerized alarm monitoring system that is comprised of overseeing fire, burglar, and panic alarms, operating and communicating by using the university’s emergency call box system and routinely verifying the system’s functionality, and the ability to receive and execute float plans for University-owned vessels. Operates computerized security camera system that is comprised of file searches, copying, downloading; and routinely verifying system functionality, using, maintaining and updating the License Plate Reader (LPR) system, while also granting and/or denying access to gated parking areas across campus.
- Maintains system abilities and certifications while performing timely queries on Datatel, NCIC, NIMS (National Incident Management System), CPR, AED, and 911 Telecommunications (1 week training at SCJA); attends all mandatory trainings and monthly dispatch meetings, SCDMV, 25 Live, Starrez, Shuttle Tracker, CS Gold, Email, operates campus emergency notification system when appropriate, including the Mass Communication System, CCU Alert, All Call Emergency radio, makes proper notifications to University and Departmental administration as well as facilities management personnel of potentially hazardous, dangerous or otherwise harmful situations or occurrences as well as the Weather Radio and any other systems that may be necessary to perform the required duties.
- Remains familiar with the physical location of all of the department’s coverage area to include satellite areas; has knowledge of University and Departmental policies and procedures, covers any changes/shortages in schedule, which may include mandatory overtime; and maintaining the Self-Service program.
Communications Specialist II (BA20/61122847/FTE-S01132P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Grade: GEN04. Salary range: $30,700.00 (minimum) – $39,900.00 (midpoint). Normal work days vary. This is a 36/48 schedule and includes nights and weekends. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must have good verbal and written skills, ability to interact successfully within a diverse academic community and with visitors. Ability to act and make decisions quickly and intelligently in all situations. Ability to operate computer programs and systems related to a public safety department. Ability to answer calls for assistance on radios and/or telephones from the public and public safety officers.
