Position Summary:

The Campus Safety Office at Rollins College is seeking a full-time Shift Supervisor with a strong service orientation for its third shift operations.

  • Scheduling work assignment and shifts to ensure proper coverage of campus
  • Evaluating the performance of campus safety officers and inspecting personnel for adherence to departmental standards
  • Training new campus safety officers in policy and procedure
  • Patrolling the campus to ensure protection of all campus faculty, staff, students, and visitors, as well as all campus buildings and structures
  • Answering calls of both criminal and civil nature; addressing negative behavior appropriately
  • Reviewing and responding to emails and phone calls promptly
  • Assisting and directing students, guests, and visitors on campus
  • Assisting motorists, answering calls for assistance, transporting students to hospitals, or emergency treatment facilities, and escorting students as requested

  • Conducting appropriate training sessions for members of the campus community on safety related topics - AED, CPR, First Aid, etc
  • Providing building access to faculty, staff, and students
  • Understanding and abiding by all guidelines associated with the Clery Act and Title IX

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of job-related experience.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required to drive College vehicles.
  • Possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Possess and maintain State of Florida Class D' security license within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to train, direct, and supervise the work of others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern safety/police practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively meet and work with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and public.
  • Ability to work in demanding and stressful situations.

Work Schedule:

The Campus Safety Office provides 24-hour response to call for service, provides routine and directed patrol activities, parking enforcement, and preliminary investigation of most campus incidents.

  • Schedule: 3rd Shift = 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Hours: Security Officers work approximately 40 hours per week, for a total of 2,080 hours per year.

Working Environment:

  • Front-facing customer service role on-campus (inside and outside).
  • Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous situation, requires physical strain involving walking and standing for extended periods of time (must be able to run short distance, walk a flight of stairs, lift up to 50 pounds), and exposure to the elements.
  • As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call-in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of college facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.
  • Able to work flexible hours; overtime may be required.
