Join the front line of campus life as a Bus Driver/Operator with the University's Transportation Department! This full-time plays a key role in delivering safe, reliable, and friendly service to our campus community. Drivers work 40 hours per week on rotating shifts between 4:45 AM and 12:30 AM, supporting operations 7 days a week. They also may be asked to be on-call or support overtime driving.
As a vital part of our team, you’ll be the face of the university for many students, faculty, and visitors—providing exceptional service with every ride. This essential position requires a CDL Class A or B with passenger endorsement and at least one year of experience operating passenger buses (16+ capacity). The position is considered essential personnel and must report for emergency preparedness or response.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely transport passengers across campus and surrounding areas.
- Deliver excellent customer service as a visible ambassador of the university.
- Use efficient computer skills for clerical tasks, email communication, and fleet reporting.
- Collaborate with team members and departments to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Fuel, clean, and perform routine maintenance checks on assigned and shared vehicles.
- Maintain accurate logs and submit documentation through digital platforms.
- Report to work during emergencies or special events as an essential employee.
- Compliance with traffic and safety regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
- Ability to react to changing conditions in route format, weather, or general driving conditions.
Operate university vehicles (buses, vans and/or trolleys) on routes ensuring adherence to schedules and safety. Provide transportation for students, faculty, staff, and equipment safely and efficiently, including University events. Assist with ridership logs, loading and unloading of passengers or cargo, including securing items and ensuring proper weight distribution. Operate ADA wheelchair lift. Transport golf carts, LSV's and vehicles to locations on and off campus.
Responsibilities also include fueling, through cleaning, and conducting routine maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, as well as assisting with the upkeep and readiness of other fleet vehicles as needed.
Maintain accurate records including trip logs, fuel usage, mileage, and maintenance reports using digital systems. Computer proficiency is required to enter information in software programs. Use computer systems for scheduling, reporting, and communication with dispatch and supervisors. Support fleet management by entering data into tracking systems, reporting vehicle issues, and assisting with inventory of transportation assets.
Ensure vehicle safety and compliance: conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting maintenance needs, and adhering to DOT and university regulations. Daily safety inspection of vehicles: Completing with accuracy the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report and timely reporting of vehicle defects. Emergency preparedness and support as directed when emergencies arise.
Maintain through and continual communication with team and supervisor at all times, Carry a 2-way radio on board buses & trolleys. When applicable, a University provided cell phone or tablet is to be charged and on. Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols and operational procedures. Collaborate with other staff to coordinate transportation needs including university events ensuring timely service delivery.
Additional duties as assigned, including serving as back-up driver (overtime) should a shortage of drivers occur. Subject to DOT drug/alcohol testing and physical exam.

Requirements:
- Commercial Driver License Class A or B with a P (passenger endorsement), and clean record. No restriction on passengers.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, preemployment physical examination and medical history check.
- Physical requirements must be in compliance with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382.
- A minimum of 1 year driving a passenger bus of 16 or more.
