Join the Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies at the University of Otago as the Eamon Cleary Postdoctoral Fellow in Irish Studies. This two-year, full-time fellowship offers an exciting opportunity for emerging researchers to develop an independent research programme while contributing to a vibrant academic centre with strong international and community connections.
Open to PhD graduates in any area of Irish Studies - including literature, history, politics, sociology, diaspora studies and related fields - this fellowship particularly welcomes applicants whose research incorporates a medical humanities perspective.
Based in Dunedin and commencing in February 2027, the role has no teaching requirements, allowing the successful candidate to focus on research, public engagement, and scholarly dissemination. The fellow will actively participate in the Centre’s activities, including conferences, workshops, festivals and community events, while supporting the delivery of its research programme.
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Irish Studies or a related discipline and demonstrate a strong research record appropriate to their career stage. You will be a self-motivated researcher with excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
