Early Childhood Innovation Center in the Institute for Human Development at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Job Description

The Content Specialist will serve as a subject-matter expert in early childhood education best practices, both in learning environments and administratively, by training and coaching program staff and creating and sourcing resource materials for all program staff as requested. Additionally, candidates will create and deliver a wide range of professional development curricula for both Project Team members and Project participants. The Content Specialist will also establish and maintain certification on all observation instruments.

Duties include:

  • Monitor project team initial and annual observation training requirements
  • Provide technical assistance to the Early Childhood Quality Specialists in all aspects of observation
  • Maintain quality standards for observations (inter-rater reliability, quality checking observation reports)
  • Monitor data for fidelity of observation implementation for the project
  • Create and revise observation protocol
  • Create and implement early childhood professional development curriculum for project staff and participants
  • Plan and facilitate Professional Learning Community (PLC) project staff and participants
  • Maintain consistent and timely communication with Team Leader, Content Specialist, and Project Coordinator as required
  • Establish and maintain certification on observation instruments
  • Other duties as assigned

Note: While the Content Specialist does not need to reside in Missouri, they must be available to travel to sites within Missouri to meet project needs.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in related/relevant area, and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

  • 5 years relevant experience in early childhood
  • 3 years relevant experience in program administration
  • Observation tool certification
  • Specialized training in early childhood best practices (curriculum, child guidance, etc.)
  • Previous creation and delivery of professional development curricula
  • Experience mentoring and coaching adult learners
  • Experience conducting strengths-based classroom assessment

Anticipated salary range starting at $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
