The University of Melbourne Queensberry Children’s Centre offers high quality early childhood care and education to children aged 3 months to school age with funded 3- and 4-year-old kindergarten programs. You'll work in a collaborative environment, implementing innovative programs that align with national quality standards and curriculum frameworks. This role offers you the chance to shape young minds, build meaningful relationships with children and families, and contribute to continuous improvement in early childhood education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implement High-Quality Programs: Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs that respond to children's individual strengths and interests, aligned with national curriculum frameworks.
  • Ensure Child Safety and Development: Supervise children's activities, maintain a safe environment, and record observations to assess learning and inform program planning.
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with team members to create engaging learning environments and liaise with families and colleagues to support children's development.
  • Maintain Professional Standards: Adhere to National Quality Standards and relevant regulations, continuously evaluating and reflecting on teaching practices to improve outcomes for children.

An enthusiastic, committed Diploma Educator with knowledge of contemporary early childhood practice who is able to nurture children and effectively facilitate learning. You will demonstrate significant experience or interest in inquiry learning, arts education, sustainability and learning in nature.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be a great team person, and hold a sound knowledge of child safety and regulatory compliance.

You will also have:

  • Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care as recognized by ACECQA
  • A current Working with Children Check, Level 2 First Aid Certificate and Mandatory Reporting Certification.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the relevant state and federal legislation

Your new team – Student and Scholarly Services, Early Childhood Education Services

Student and Scholarly Services provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff.

Early Childhood Education Services is located within Student and Scholarly Services at The University of Melbourne, comprising the Early Learning Centre, Abbotsford (90 places daily), Queensberry Children’s Centre (96 places daily), and Swanston Street Children’s Centres (40 places daily). These centres provide early childhood education for approximately 266 children aged 6 months to five years from the University and the surrounding community. The centres operate for a minimum of 48 weeks per year and are open for 10 hours per day. The early childhood education staff team is comprised of approximately 60 staff working either full-time or part-time across the three centres.
