Lees-McRae is a small, private, liberal arts college, located in the Appalachian region of the Southeastern United States. The college is at an exciting time of growth in its online presence and online learning has been identified as a priority initiative in our 2030 INEXPRO Strategic Plan. Currently, the college offers 7 undergraduate programs and 1 graduate program online. All online Bachelor’s degrees are based on a 2+2 model and are designed to complete the last two years of the four-year degree. Online courses are offered during 16- and 8-week terms, depending on the program, and are asynchronous. Lees-McRae prides itself on small class sizes, highly qualified faculty with real-world experience, and an emphasis on experiential learning. Summary/Objective


Lees-McRae College offers term by term, non-tenured teaching appointments to qualified individuals who are dedicated to providing quality educational experiences to students in distance learning Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to work in a virtual, professional learning community wherein faculty contribute to and engage in instructional best practice for adult learners in an innovative, non-traditional university setting.


Adjunct faculty are currently needed for the following disciplines for the Fall 2024 term:


Statistics & Research Methods (Writing Intensive) – Students will be introduced to social scientific inquiry and the research design process, as well as some of the most common quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Although key statistical concepts are covered, the focus of the course is helping students gain a conceptual understanding of the components of research procedures.

Community Resources & Intra-professional Networks – This course is an introductory course exploring human services in the well-being of a population. Topics include Financing options and fiscal resources, health and mental healthcare promotion, prevention strategies, and the roles of public and private institutions.



Essential Functions


Provide an online learning environment that supports student success.

Teach synchronous and/or asynchronous classes (8- or 16-week units) as assigned by school or program.

Maintain two virtual office hours per week for each course.

Ensure timely management and response to electronic correspondence from students, administrators, and other school officials.

Provide regular and substantive feedback to students.

Initiate regular and substantive interaction with students.

Maintain an active instructor presence in the course.

Partner with the Director of ODL to address student concerns.

Maintain and submit accurate and timely reports for student grades/progress.

Deliver mid-term and final grades in accordance with the academic calendar.

Enforce student conduct policies as outlined in the Academic Catalog and Student Handbook.

Attend college, departmental, and faculty meetings virtually as requested.

Remain current with trends, techniques, and advances in distance learning.

Perform additional duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications 

Required Education and Experience


Master’s degree in Human Services or related field.

1-3 years’ related teaching experience in online/distance learning at an institution of higher education.

Exceptional computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and teleconferencing technology. Experience with Brightspace education software is preferred.

Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications 

Preferred Education and Experience


Doctorate or terminal degree in Human Services or related field.

3 + years’ related teaching experience in online/distance learning at an institution of higher education.

Exceptional computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and teleconferencing technology. Experience with Brightspace education software is preferred.

Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
