Education Developer Placemaking

Job Summary

Are you passionate about pioneering and have an affinity for education development? Do you want to be part of a university-wide education initiative on Placemaking, at the intersection of social geography, culture, nature, and health? The Placemaking UvA team is seeking an education developer to collaborate with various faculties of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and other educational institutions to shape innovative transdisciplinary Placemaking education.

Placemaking at UvA consists of a coherent education program including various courses at bachelor and master levels, a Summer School, graduation placements, and an internship program with the Amsterdam municipality. The program centers on the Placemaking education methodology. In June 2023, Placemaking won the Dutch Education Prize for scientific education, which is used to sustain, expand, and innovate Placemaking UvA. You will join a core team of education developers and a coordinator, working with lecturers from different faculties to implement and strengthen Placemaking education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substantive guidance to lecturers in developing and implementing thematic inter- and transdisciplinary Placemaking education, focusing on the interaction between science and society.
  • Evaluate existing Placemaking education with lecturer teams and advise on possible improvements.
  • Coordinate the execution of a Placemaking intervention and connect it to education across various faculties.
  • Be broadly deployable for Placemaking education across all faculties and work on establishing Placemaking education with other vocational and higher education institutions in the region.
  • Deliver guest lectures and participate in conferences and networking events.
  • Train lecturers in the transdisciplinary Placemaking approach.
  • Take initiative and come up with innovative ideas.
  • Contribute to writing a Placemaking handbook by collecting and developing Placemaking activities from various educational institutions.
  • Support the Placemaking lecturer team in aligning and streamlining various Placemaking courses, realizing new Placemaking education materials, and conducting training or lecturer professionalization activities.
  • Develop innovation plans for education in collaboration with new institutions and target groups, and assist lecturers with education development at the subject level and innovation activities.
  • Serve as a Placemaking ambassador at conferences and other educational institutions.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience with education development, particularly in inter- and transdisciplinary education.
  • Familiarity with the substantive and organizational culture at the university and knowledge of various organizational components.
  • Demonstrable experience in coordinating sub-projects and participating in development, change, and/or advisory projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in writing academic texts.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills in both Dutch and English.
  • A true team player.
  • Preferably, knowledge of and experience with Placemaking education.

What the Employer Offers

  • A temporary employment contract for 24 hours per week for a period of 12 months, with possible extension of up to 1 year. The preferred start date is as soon as possible.
  • Gross monthly salary based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience: between €4,728 and €6,433 (scale 11), excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • The UFO profile for education development employee 2 applies. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. The CAO Universities of the Netherlands applies.
  • 232 vacation hours per year (based on full-time) and extra days off between Christmas and January 1.
  • Various courses available via the Teaching and Learning Centre, including leadership, time management, work pressure, English, and an online platform with over 100 courses.
  • 7 weeks of parental leave with 100% salary retention and partially paid parental leave.
  • Option to set up a home workspace.
  • Pension with ABP, where UvA contributes two-thirds.
