This role is critical in ensuring that electrical building services including power distribution, lighting systems, emergency lighting, and specialist electrical installations are maintained to the highest standards, remain compliant with regulations, and operate safely. You will play a key part in safeguarding the University's 3.4 billion estate and supporting its long-term sustainability and operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver reactive and planned maintenance across a wide range of electrical systems, including LV distribution, lighting control systems, emergency lighting, UPS, and standby generators.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults, ensuring minimal disruption to teaching and research activities.
  • Lead on-site teams during major maintenance projects, emergency breakdowns, and installations.
  • Prepare risk assessments, method statements, and compliance documentation for all works undertaken.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of services.
  • Support and mentor junior team members, sharing technical expertise and best practices.
  • Participate in the Duty Technician on-call rota, providing out-of-hours emergency support across the estate.

About You

  • Practical skills developed through a recognised trade apprenticeship or equivalent, with NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to participate in the on-call rota.

Please be aware that a Full UK Driving Licence is essential for this role (a full EU Driving Licence is acceptable on appointment, but the successful applicant must transfer to a UK Licence prior to confirming a start date).

In order to succeed in this role, you will join us with a proactive approach, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient building services that support the University's operational and strategic priorities.
