Our team:

The Building Engineering Trades are an integral part of maintaining and improving the core systems of the architectural structures on campus. These Electric, HVAC and Plumbing shops provide a range of services to academic, research, library and special University facilities which include the following:

  • 24 Hour Emergency Response
  • Routine Maintenance
  • New System Design & Installation
  • Repairs & Alterations to Existing Systems

Electrical:

New installations: Electrified door hardware, lighting control systems, new electrical services (120, 208 & 480v systems), panel load readings, Cubicle/office installations and relocations: Power poles for cubicles, motion detectors/occupancy sensors, receptacle/light switching, support EMCS with TSO installation, Equipment/service disconnect, Maintenance and repair to all campus low voltage electrical systems: Exit/egress lights, battery banks, fire/smoke dampers

Light fixtures: Installation, ballast and bulb repair/replace, special case relamping, Installation and repair of exit lights, installation and repair of blue towers, maintenance and repair of all emergency generators: Monthly/annual compliance tests, quarterly load bank testing

Temporary power for special events or internal needs: Provide Stanford owned generator or coordinate rented unit, Infrared program: Scanning electrical panels for "hot spots"

Relamp Work:

Flickering lights, Burning odor, Primary light source outage and Hanging fixtures or diffusers

HVAC:

New installations: Heating and cooling coils, air handlers, split systems, etc.

Renovation of existing systems, Full service sheet metal work: ducts, pans, damper/vent work

Provide temporary cooling and heating, Control schedules and set points for most campus HVAC systems, Maintenance and repair of all campus HVAC systems, Chemical water treatment for closed loop water systems, Fume hood maintenance for labs, Freeze protection.

Plumbing:

New installations: plumbing fixtures (i.e. sinks, water heaters, toilets, etc), piping insulation projects, Maintenance and repair of all campus plumbing systems, Installation and maintenance of safety showers and eye wash stations, Full service drain cleaning and jetter service: ALL types of drains (i.e. storm drains, sink drains, gutters/downspouts), Major sewer pipe cleaning and retrofit projects, Lab services: DI water, process piping, domestic water, natural gas, Hydronic heating systems: pumps, piping, Water filtration systems: various types

Summary of Job Description:

Under the guidance of LBRE Leadership, the District Supervisor/Facilities Manager is responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating machinery and systems in a cost-effective manner. The District Supervisor/Facilities Manager must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the client's needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime throughout the engineering team. Responsible for protecting and improving the value of the client's assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended function.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage Stanford Bargaining Unit maintenance staff including hiring, training, and personal development.
  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), Electrical (lighting, Building re-lamping, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), (Plumbing, Process Systems, Process Gases, Heating/Cooling Loops).
  • Work with district/zones/BGM/utilities staff and contracting with outside vendors as necessary.
  • Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the district's buildings either as representatives of the building itself or tenants operating within the building.
  • Communicate with internal and external clients including University Faculty and Staff regarding various areas of concern.
  • Identify the maintenance objectives of the District facilities and incorporate those objectives into a documented plan that includes preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations.

  • May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA.
  • May working at heights 4 - 10 ft..

Core Duties:

  • Oversee the daily operation and management of assigned facilities and programs, including scheduling and assigning work to staff and coordinating with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors; coaching lower level managerial staff; overseeing staffing and performance evaluation of assigned staff; contributing to department or division staffing needs forecast.
  • Clarify and resolve problems spanning multiple areas or technical fields and/or oversee or develop programs within assigned facilities.
  • Manage and/or develop budget for area of responsibility, including staffing, maintenance, contracts, etc.
  • Manage ongoing service contracts as applicable.
  • Participate in department/unit strategic management, including making recommendations involving short-term planning for facility-type projects and for longer-range programs/projects; providing input into long-range financial, budgeting, and programmatic planning and development; providing input into the development of policies and procedures; interpret and manage policies and procedures for assigned area.
  • Oversee and/or monitor project activities; ensure integration with larger unit goals; coordinate with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience.

Minimum Experience:

Two years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, residential & dining facilities, auditoriums, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated experience managing service contracts.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, developing, and implementing programs.
  • Ability to interpret planning specifications, documents, working drawings, and related reports.
