Embedded Tutors will partner with a single faculty member (the faculty partner) and will report to the Embedded Tutoring Coordinator. Consultations are designed so that each student can receive free, one-to-one writing assistance in person or online. Embedded Tutors are employed through the Title III funded Embedded Tutoring Program as facilitated by the NSU Writing Center and the Activity Director Andrew Burlile.
• Meet with students one-to-one or in small-groups to provide learning assistance related to writing
• Provide feedback on writing assignments and help students engage in the writing process
• Assist students in properly formatting a paper in the designated documentation style
• Assist students in avoiding plagiarism and properly citing sources
• Help students become independent learners and writers
• Collaborate with and encourage the use of additional Dr. Patricia Lynch Stith Student Success Center (PLSSSC), the NSU Writing Center, and other campus resources (see page 23 for services provided by PLSSSC)
• Attend training sessions or meetings as required by the Embedded Tutoring Coordinator
• Arrive on time and prepare for each appointment and meeting
• Conduct each session in a conscientious, professional manner
• Complete a brief summary form for each consultation
• Complete and return all required paperwork to the Embedded Tutoring Coordinator
• Notify supervisor of any concerns about students
• Design and facilitate writing workshops within the Writing Center and as requested by School of Business faculty partner
• Meet regularly with assigned faculty partner as agreed upon by faculty partner and Embedded Tutoring Coordinator
• Attend course into which embedded as a tutor at least five times throughout the semester
• Be able to use a variety of software (MSWord, Microsoft 365, Power point, WCONLINE, Zoom, Blackboard)
Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basis of the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April 30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should you work 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, as well as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours to ensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nor do they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupying classified positions.
