Employee Assistance and Organizational Resilience Officer

The Organizational Wellness and Resilience Officer is a licensed behavioral health professional who strengthens the psychological health, resilience, and organizational effectiveness of DPSS personnel. This role blends clinical services with organizational consultation, offering short-term support, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed guidance while also shaping policies, programs, and strategies that promote a healthy and high-performing workforce.

Working independently and in collaboration with DPSS leadership, Human Resources, FASCCO, and the Office of Workplace Resilience, the Officer serves as a liaison to campus and external resources and designs and evaluates evidence-based initiatives that address the unique demands of public safety roles. The position assesses organizational needs, maintains a network of referral resources, and provides training and consultation that support employee well-being, job performance, and organizational sustainability.

Clinical Support & Employee Assistance

  • Provide confidential, short-term consultation, assessment, crisis intervention, and referrals for DPSS employees.
  • Address personal or work-related concerns affecting well-being or performance.
  • Maintain updated referral resources for mental health and specialized treatment services.
  • Support individuals and teams following critical incidents or high-stress events.
  • Ensure ethical, confidential clinical practice in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and professional standards.

Organizational Consultation & Strategy

  • Advise leadership on practices that strengthen psychological safety, resilience, and workforce performance.
  • Recommend wellness principles for possible integration into hiring, onboarding, and leadership development.
  • Evaluate organizational challenges and recommend evidence-based interventions.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate a comprehensive support system for public safety personnel.

Program Development & Training

  • Develop, lead, and evaluate wellness, peer support, and employee assistance initiatives tailored to public safety environments.
  • Create and update resources, policies, and materials that support work-life balance and reduce burnout.
  • Deliver training on trauma resilience, stress management, psychological safety, and leadership wellness.
  • Contribute to internal communications and educational materials on wellness and support services.

Assessment, Data, & Reporting

  • Collect and analyze organizational wellness data to identify trends and emerging needs.
  • Conduct needs assessments and measure program effectiveness using continuous improvement methods.
  • Provide regular reports and recommendations to leadership on organizational health indicators.

Campus & Community Collaboration

  • Coordinate with campus partners and community providers to expand support options and cultural competence.
  • Strengthen DPSS's connection to broader university systems focused on employee well-being and organizational resilience.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Active Michigan licensure or eligibility (LMSW, LPC, LP, LLP, or equivalent).
  • Completion of specialized training in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, or critical incident stress management (CISM).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical practice, employee wellness, or organizational health.
  • At least 3 years working with law enforcement, emergency services, campus security, or public safety populations.
  • Experience developing or managing wellness or peer support programs in high-stress environments.
  • Demonstrated skill in crisis response, assessment, and referral for diverse staff populations.
  • Familiarity with higher education or healthcare systems.
  • Proven experience partnering with leadership to influence organizational culture and workforce well-being.
  • Knowledge of occupational stress, secondary trauma, and resilience specific to public safety.
  • Strong interpersonal, consultation, and facilitation skills with the ability to build trust in confidential settings.
  • Competence in data analysis, program evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience designing and delivering training for varied staff audiences.
  • Strong ethical judgment and adherence to confidentiality standards.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and navigate complex organizational structures.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal, risk-management, and compliance considerations in safety and security settings.

All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
