Employee Relations Partner

The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 570 years, and today we are delighted to rank in the top 100 of universities worldwide in both the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings.

Our people have always been at the forefront of innovation, and our past achievements inspire our current world changers.

A fantastic new opportunity has arisen for an Employee Relations Partner to join the University’s dedicated Case Management Hub (Policy & Employee Relations Team) within the People and Organisational Development (P&OD) department.

About the role

Working within our dedicated Case Management Hub, you will be part of a team providing effective, consistent and proactive management of ER casework.

The Case Management Hub was formed in early 2024 and focuses primarily on supporting discipline and grievance casework across all areas of the University, with the potential to explore opportunities to bring in other aspects of case management in due course.

Our strategic themes are centred on providing an excellent employee experience for our workforce and cultivating a values-led culture, and the work that you will be doing will contribute to this. This will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of ER cases, and providing expert advice and guidance on these.
  • Supporting and coaching managers and senior leaders, as well as providing support to other projects and initiatives that enhance the P&OD ER offering, such as the development of policies, templates, and toolkits.
  • Role modelling our Values and contributing to a positive and constructive employee relations environment.
  • Working closely with P&OD colleagues to continuously improve the case management service and to strengthen management capability in regard to ER matters.

About you

With well-developed knowledge of employee relations best practice and current employment legislation in the UK, you will have a proven track record of working in HR at a professional level, gained within a large and complex organisation, demonstrating your ability to successfully handle an HR case work portfolio (including discipline and grievance investigations, hearings and appeals, as well as attendance and performance management processes) to their conclusion.

You will be interacting with a broad range of colleagues, therefore the ability to successfully adopt a consultancy style is essential, demonstrating proven influencing, judgement, analytical and problem-solving abilities. You will be confident, credible and resilient, with the ability to work both independently but also to contribute as a team-player.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open-ended (permanent). Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.

Informal enquiries should be directed via email to Chris Branney (Head of Policy & Employee Relations) at chris.branney@glasgow.ac.uk.
