The Opportunity:

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Post-Doctoral Engineer in the ‘DOSA point-of-care diagnostic for urinary tract infections in low- and middle-income countries’ project (DOSA3) at the University of Edinburgh. DOSA3 is the latest instalment of the successful collaboration between the University of Edinburgh, University of the Arts London, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Assam University, and Silchar Medical College since 2018. The DOSA team has the vision to tackle urinary tract infections (UTIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through true Point of Care Tests (POCT) in the community. UTIs are one of the most common infectious diseases, but many people, particularly women in low- and middle-income countries, cannot access appropriate care. Accessible diagnostics are essential tools to address this challenge.

The post will focus on the engineering and design for manufacture aspects of the project. The post holder will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of technologies and approaches including paper and microfluidic devices, printing and patterning, as well as surface and polymer chemistry and engage with a multidisciplinary team and multisectoral group of stakeholders ranging from diagnostic innovators, social scientists, medical professionals, microbiologists, biophysicists, healthcare authorities, to the general public.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and fixed-term (for 19 months).
