Their work will be guided in areas that include:

• Helping students navigate the academic rigors of an engineering degree
• Strengthening academic belonging of engineering students as joint students of UNC Asheville and NC State
• Facilitating high impact experiences for engineering students
• Academic instruction

Duties include: assisting with academic advising of interested and declared engineering students, student support especially for early-career students in the transition to college engineering curricula – including office hours and study sessions, student workshops, and assisting with organizing and promoting department events. In addition, as instructor, will teach 6 contact hours each semester in first-year seminar (FYS 178, fall semester) and will facilitate courses offered at UNC Asheville for engineering students (spring).

As Advisor, will also act as a liaison between the Program and the Academic Success Center, which requires the ability to collaborate and build rapport with faculty, staff, and students.

Required Education/Experience/Skills

• Master’s degree.
• Proficient skills in teaching science, math and student success strategies at the undergraduate level.
• Experience in student support (such as: advising, tutoring, mentoring, career development).

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

• Master’s in engineering (fields include mechanical, electrical, materials science, robotics, or mechatronics) and/or industrial experience in engineering. Candidates with a master’s degree in another field with strong STEM related, teaching and/or student advising background and experience are also desired.
• Proficient skills and experience in teaching science, math and student success strategies.
• Experience in student support of engineering courses and/or correlate disciplines (such as: precalculus, calculus sequence, physics, computer science).
• Proficient skills and experience in student support (such as: advising, tutoring, mentoring, career development)
• The successful candidate must be able to function professionally in a highly collaborative and increasingly dynamic organization.
