Engineering Technician II
The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is seeking an Engineering Technician II who is self-motivated and takes initiative with mechanical and electrical skills to work on dental equipment. This position will work with a team to maintain and support the dental clinics and simulation area equipment. Good troubleshooting skills, communication skills, and the desire to be a part of a team are a must. This position requires the candidate to be able to lift and carry equipment in excess of 50lbs. Previous experience is desired but not mandatory and training will be provided.

Primary Duties:
- Fabricates, assembles and tests a variety of moderately complex mechanical devices.
- Selects and modifies test equipment and procedures in accordance with test plans developed by others.
- Researches technical literature; analyzes technical data, applies and adapts a wide variety of established methods of computation and analysis.
- Operates a variety of electromechanical instruments; mounts test items and sets up sensors and recording devices; modifies test procedures and equipment as instructed.
- Monitors recorded data on equipment performance. Visually examines equipment to determine apparent damage or change and reports findings.
- Assists in design modifications by compiling related design, specifications, and materials data pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
- Assists in the preparation of reports, analyses, technical papers, and correspondence using manual or computer assisted techniques.
- Ensures the operational readiness and safety of machinery, tools and equipment; performs maintenance and repairs on fabricated and assembled equipment.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools or mechanical equipment specific to the requirements of the job.
- Assists with office moves, setting up and breakdown of furniture for meetings and events.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Four years in non-professional technical work in engineering or an allied area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of the basic principles of engineering, and the basic materials, elements, or products in the area of specialization. Skill in the application of basic mechanical and electrical principles, and the system of measures applicable to the area of specialization; in operating equipment applicable to the job according to standard safety procedures; in reading and interpreting technical specifications and drawings; in setting up and calibrating instruments and preparing instruments for testing. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions; to use personal computers, to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and structural components and equipment from drawings and specifications; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
Hiring Range: $58,000 - $64,000 (pre-probation) & $59,450 - $65,600 (post-probation)
