Environmental Protection Technician
Overview
This position is located in Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia.
Risk Management & Safety at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Environmental Protection Specialist! This individual performs duties for a variety of environmental compliance services for Fort Benning, Georgia. Areas of specialization: Hazardous Waste Management, Non-RCRA waste, Clean Water Act Compliance, Clean Air Act compliance and Storage Tank Management.
As this position will support the IGSA with Fort Benning, candidates will be required to successfully obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) to access government network. As the process to obtain a CAC is led by the federal government and can be a lengthy process, the candidate's probationary period may need to be extended to allow this requirement to be met. If the candidate is unable, the candidate may be terminated for failing to meet this minimum requirement.
Responsibilities
- Receive and effectively manage multiple waste streams generated throughout the installation.
- Pick up waste throughout the installation through the You-Call-We-Haul program.
- Manage the onsite inventory of containers used for waste management.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the 90-Day Facility.
- Proactively seek new ways to improve overall safety and environmental performance.
- Participate in ongoing environmental and safety training.
- May participate in the chemical and/ or hazardous materials emergency response team.
- Assists with spill cleanup, and reports spills to proper points of contact.
- May perform other duties assigned.
- Must provide excellent customer service.
Qualifications
Level I
- High school diploma or equivalent
Level II
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience OR
- Associate's degree
Level III
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience OR
- Associate's degree plus 2 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree
Level IV
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience OR
- Associate's degree plus 4 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience
Scope of Experience: Experience in managing environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management
