EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1 (Culinary Services)
Job Description
Under general direction of lead worker or supervision from higher level supervisor, operates motorized equipment to move food and freight.
- Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines. (NOTE: In order to adhere to OSHA and/or Ohio University guidelines, employees may not exceed the maximum total weight capacity for equipment which is currently 250 pounds. Total weight measured includes body weight, all clothing, shoes/boots, required personal protective equipment (PPE), etc. The current weight of the required PPE is approx. 17 pounds.)
- Operates fork lift, order pickers, electric pallet jacks and other job-related equipment to offload food & freight from trucks and store in the warehouse, rotate stock, and pick from storage for delivery. Operates delivery trucks/vans to deliver food & supplies to dining services operations.
- May clean freezers, coolers & related areas.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Skill in operating various types of motorized equipment (fork lift, order picker, electric pallet jacks, etc.)
- Proper storage and food-handling techniques.
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form
- Ability to work independently or with others
- Willingness to foster a welcoming and respectful workforce and community
- Ability to read & write common vocabulary in sentence structure
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals & percentages
- Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems
- Lift up to 50 lbs. (occasional stock weights 60-80 lbs)
- Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures
- Demonstrate dexterity in job related skills.
- Valid Driver's License
- Complete and pass fork-lift training*, pallet jack*, and order picker training*.
- Successful completion of a test may be required.
- May work outside in all weather conditions: may be exposed to extreme temperatures inside and outside.

AFSCME 1699 Pay Range I 05 I $21.15 – $23.87 per hour.
