We welcome candidates with expertise across the broad areas of Environmental
Engineering. Preference will be given to applicants whose research integrates Environmental Engineering with one or more civil engineering
disciplines, such as transportation, geotechnical, construction, water resources, or structural engineering, and who demonstrate a
commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research, teaching, and collaboration. Relevant interdisciplinary areas include, but are not
limited to, environmental sensing and smart infrastructure;
geoenvironmental engineering and contaminated-site remediation; environmental
impacts of transportation systems and sustainable mobility; low-carbon infrastructure materials and sustainable construction;
stormwater
management and urban water quality; and AI/ML applications in environmental engineering and related areas. Preference also will be given to
candidates who hold a professional license.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will: 1) establish and maintain
an externally funded research program; 2) advise graduate and undergraduate students in research and professional development; 3) teach
graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental engineering, and in related areas of civil engineering to support the needs of the CEE
department; 4) actively participate in professional, university, college, and departmental service activities; and 5) Mentor students from
diverse backgrounds and life experiences, fostering an inclusive, equitable, and supportive academic environment.
Qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or a closely related
field
- Demonstrated ability to secure competitive external research funding
- A strong record of peer-reviewed
publications in reputable scholarly journals - Evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate
level - Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- A commitment to Howard University's mission and core
