Events and External Relations Coordinator

The Events and External Relations Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission and strategic initiatives of the UCR School of Medicine (SOM) by supporting alumni engagement, community relations, and institutional outreach. Working under the SOM Strategic Initiatives Department, this position contributes to programs and events that strengthen connections with alumni, students, donors, government officials, and the broader community.

The Coordinator will assist in planning and executing internal and external events such as symposiums, VIP briefings, fundraising galas, and milestone ceremonies, including the White Coat Ceremony and Commencement. These activities directly support UCR SOM's commitment to building community partnerships, enhancing philanthropic support, and advancing health equity across Inland Southern California.

This role requires close collaboration with campus partners including UCR Development, UCR Government and Community Relations, and UCR Health. The incumbent will also contribute to communications and outreach efforts, logistical coordination, and alumni engagement programming.

The full salary range for Events and External Relations Coordinator is $53,100 - $89,700 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $55,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

The position follows a hybrid schedule, with three days per week on campus and two days remote, providing flexibility while ensuring strong campus and community presence.

Requirements:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required.
  • Experience Requirements: 0 - 1 years of related experience. Required. 1 - 2 years of experience in event planning/management. Preferred.
  • Special Conditions: Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required. Ability to work evening and/or weekends as needed for special events. Required.
  • Minimum Requirements: Organizational skills including skills to meet prescribed deadlines. Written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including tact and political acumen to effectively represent the institution to a variety of constituencies. Analytical and critical thinking skills. Applicable computer skills. Event planning and management skills. Ability to complete simple tasks with established deadlines; attention to detail.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of concepts and principles of effective event planning and production and public relations. Organizational skills to effectively coordinate and track multiple details. Proficient use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

Key Responsibilities: Under direct supervision, assists in implementing programs and/or communication strategies designed to inform alumni and other key constituencies of institutional programs, policies, practices, et cetera; constituencies may include the general public, prospective students, students, alumni, parents, donors, campus visitors, government officials' staff, et cetera.
