Executive Director, Counseling and Psychological Services

Job Summary

Oversees and advances Counseling and Psychological Services through strategic leadership and administrative management, ensuring effective clinical supervision, high quality mental health services, coordinated crisis response, and comprehensive campuswide outreach. Provides vision and direction to enhance clinical operations, strengthen prevention and intervention efforts, and expand access to care. Builds and sustains collaborative partnerships across the university and the broader community to increase resources, support innovative wellbeing initiatives, and promote a healthy, inclusive, and supportive campus environment that fosters student wellbeing and enhances student success.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategic and budgetary oversight of the offices of Counseling and Psychological Services
  2. Planning, administration, management, and evaluation of the Counseling and Psychological Services team, services, and operations, including direct supervision of assigned staff that includes departmental leaders, clinical staff, and other personnel
  3. Develops, implements, and reviews departmental policy and procedures
  4. Leads the assessment of operation, technical, and communication activities in an educational setting and use of assessment results to make changes in services to students.
  5. Identifies, develops, and executes short and long-term strategic goals and initiatives to enhance student success and customer service
  6. Oversight of the coordination, consultation, and guidance for crisis/liaison services, including intervention and post-intervention services for emergencies and highly acute critical incidents
  7. Assists divisional leadership regarding policy and practices in support of campus mental health needs, campus and community education, and awareness
  8. Collaboration with various departments and committees to provide support, outreach, and consultation to campus community to promote interactions that build upon and increase both the campus community and student's knowledge around mental health and awareness of campus resources
  9. In partnership with the divisional development director oversees all fundraising activities by assessing the Center's needs and resources, working to identify new funding sources, developing grant proposal strategies, and cultivates key relationships with community stakeholders and donors
  10. Provides support for other divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the scope of the department

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited program in psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related field of study

Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid and unrestricted driver's license
Licensed to practice as a mental health professional in the State of Georgia. If holding an unencumbered licensed in another state and eligible to be endorsed for licensure by the Georgia Secretary of State Office, must be able to obtain state of Georgia license

Required Experience
Eight (8) years of related experience and internships in higher education and/or related field with applicable clinical experience. At least three (3) years of progressive leadership responsibilities in a related setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Doctorate from an accredited program in psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related field of study

Proposed Salary

ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain successful strategic collaborations across departments and divisions within a University
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
Able to provide significant collaboration and participation with on and off-campus partners in support of college student population presenting with mental health concerns across the continuum of care.
Demonstrated ability to develop strong collaborative relationships across departments and to lead others
Promotes positive mental health attitudes and behaviors

KNOWLEDGE
Advanced knowledge and skill in the development, implementation, and evaluation of models of mental health and accessibility services
Knowledge of professional, national, and state ethical guidelines
Intermediate understanding of databases, mental health, remote learning and telehealth technologies
Experience gathering and engaging in data-informed decision-making, knowledge of current trends in collegiate mental health and accessibility services
Familiarity with short-term models of treatment

SKILLS
Experience providing administrative and clinical supervision
Experience with electronic health management record systems
Experience in student affairs leadership and/or public administration
Experience working with diverse individuals and groups
Successful collaboration with treatment team and external constituents
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, Desktop Publishing software)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
