Executive Director, Event Services and Facilities
Indiana State University invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Event Services and Facilities, an exceptional leadership opportunity for an innovative, entrepreneurial, and collaborative professional to lead one of the university's most visible auxiliary operations.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Experience and Engagement, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership for the university's premier event venues and auxiliary event operations, with primary responsibility for maximizing facility utilization, increasing revenue generation, and enhancing the financial sustainability of assigned facilities. The Executive Director develops and implements business strategies that expand external partnerships, attract concerts, conferences, tournaments, and other major events, and position Indiana State University's venues as premier destinations for campus, community, and regional events.
The Executive Director oversees the management, scheduling, operations, maintenance, marketing, and strategic development of Hulman Center, Hulman Memorial Student Union event spaces, Tilson Auditorium, University Hall Theater, and other assigned facilities. The position also serves as the university's primary liaison with promoters, event producers, sponsors, community organizations, corporate partners, and campus stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director will:
- Provide strategic leadership for all aspects of Event Services and Facilities, including planning, scheduling, and execution of conferences, concerts, commencement ceremonies, athletic events, performances, exhibitions, trade shows, and community events.
- Develop and execute innovative business development strategies that increase revenue through concerts, entertainment events, conferences, tournaments, facility rentals, sponsorships, and other entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with promoters, artists, event producers, corporate partners, community organizations, and external clients to expand programming and business opportunities.
- Negotiate contracts and facility use agreements while ensuring outstanding customer service and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with University Advancement to develop sponsorship opportunities, donor engagement initiatives, premium seating programs, and other revenue-generating partnerships.
- Direct the day-to-day operations of multiple university venues while providing leadership and supervision for professional, support, and student employees.
- Develop, administer, and monitor operating and capital budgets while ensuring sound financial management and long-term fiscal sustainability.
- Partner closely with Intercollegiate Athletics to oversee ticket operations, facility scheduling, and game-day event management that supports an exceptional student-athlete and fan experience.
- Oversee facility operations, maintenance, capital improvements, technology enhancements, and long-range planning in collaboration with Facilities Management.
- Lead event safety, emergency planning, regulatory compliance, and risk management initiatives in partnership with Public Safety and other university departments.
- Foster collaborative relationships across the university and throughout the community to maximize facility utilization and support institutional priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sport Management, Public Administration, Management, or a closely related field.
- Seven to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in event management, venue management, auxiliary operations, hospitality, athletics, convention centers, entertainment venues, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in business development, revenue generation, contract negotiation, and financial management.
- Experience leading complex operations and supervising professional staff.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience in higher education, collegiate athletics, convention centers, arenas, performing arts centers, or similar multi-purpose venues.
- Experience developing external partnerships, sponsorships, and entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Demonstrated success managing large public events and multiple event venues.
