The Department of Nursing and Allied Health invites applications for a 12-month BSN Program Director in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health. This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Nursing and Allied Health and provides leadership and vision for the University Nursing programs, including strategic planning, program innovation, program outcome evaluation, and operational management consistent with accreditation and approval guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for assuring programmatic compliance with accreditation standards; curriculum development and evaluation; teaching courses; student advisement; participation in departmental, school, and university committees; student learning and program outcomes assessments; developing faculty teaching assignments; and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
The Program Director has a wide range of professional responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Ensure that faculty are qualified by education and experience to teach in the program or to supervise the clinical practice of students in the program.
- Maintain a current faculty roster, a current clinical agency form, and current clinical contracts available for board review and subject to an audit; and implement the program and curriculum.
- Oversee the admission, academic progression, and graduation of students.
- Hire and evaluate faculty.
- Recommend and administer the program budget, consistent with established policies of the controlling agency.
- Comply with faculty licensure and experience requirements.
- Oversee development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the nursing education program.
- Ensure alignment of philosophy, objectives, curriculum, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure appropriate organization structure within the institution (reporting lines, committees, staff support).
- Monitor program outcomes (licensure pass rates, retention, graduate feedback).
- Use data and evaluation results to recommend changes/improvements.
- Lead systematic program review and improvement cycles.
- Serve as liaison with the program’s advisory committee.
- Participate in institutional governance, interdepartmental committees, and external stakeholder coordination (clinical partners, community).
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned Master of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
- An earned terminal degree in nursing (e.g., DNP, PhD, DrPH, Ed.D)
- Considerable evidence of experience in nursing practice (minimum of ten years).
- A record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research, service, and professional development.
- A current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia, or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Additional Considerations
- Considerable knowledge of educational methods and developmental outcomes.
- Experience with nursing simulation and learning management systems (eg. Blackboard, Canvas).
- Experience with higher education and nursing accreditation processes.
