Facilities Maintenance Technician
Essential Job Duties
Join our dedicated Building Maintenance and Operations team as a Facilities Maintenance Technician and play a vital role in keeping our campus systems running safely, efficiently, and reliably. In this position, you'll use your technical expertise to maintain, repair, and install a wide range of building systems, including HVACR, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
- Maintain, repair, and install HVACR systems, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, pressure-reducing stations, air compressors, and water softeners
- Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer guidelines on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
- Conduct electrical work up to 600 VAC, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical panels, breakers, switchgear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, and lighting systems
- Troubleshoot and repair control systems, including temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, sensors, pneumatic control valves, and regulators
- Install and maintain plumbing systems, including cutting, threading, assembling, and installing pipes, valves, and fixtures for gas, water, and sanitation systems
- Perform pipefitting and insulation work related to steam and water distribution systems
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices while performing all duties
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds to 90 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
Other Work/Responsibilities
- Must participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks.
- Must be able to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls
- Must be able to communicate verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the trades areas of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing
- Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards
- Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with colleagues and campus partners
Required license or certification
- Valid driver's license required
- NC driver's license within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
