Saint Francis University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Biology department to begin August 2026. Teaching responsibilities will include organismal biology courses in support of our biology major, aquarium and zoo science major, and health science majors. Specific courses will include Human Anatomy and Physiology as well as a subset of the following classes, depending on the candidate's background and interests: Animal Nutrition, Animal Care, Animal Behavior, Conservation Biology, Vertebrate Zoology, Vertebrate Physiology, other courses in the candidate's area of expertise, or other needs within the department. The candidate must maintain an active undergraduate research program. Additional responsibilities may include overseeing student workers in our aquatics lab, advising students, as well as other departmental and university service.

A terminal degree in Biology or a related discipline (e.g. Ph.D. or D.V.M.) is required at the time the position starts (ABD applicants will be considered). Experience in veterinary, zoo, or other professional animal husbandry settings is desired. The candidate must demonstrate aptitude and zeal for teaching; experience as a primary course instructor in a college setting is desired. Must provide evidence of potential and drive to develop an active undergraduate research program that is viable at a small institution.

Saint Francis University is the oldest Catholic-Franciscan College in the United States. We are a predominantly undergraduate institution in Loretto, PA, which is located in Central Pennsylvania two hours east of Pittsburgh and three hours from Washington, D.C. The University enrolls ~2,300 students, of which ~1,700 are undergraduates. The Biology department includes 12 full-time faculty and ~115 majors. Our department's student body is a mix of general biology, pre-medicine, marine biology, and aquarium & zoo science students, along with smaller numbers of students in other specialties. We are housed in the Science Center, a 70,000-square foot facility built in 2013, with modern teaching classrooms and labs, along with dedicated research space. Graduates of our programs pursue graduate and professional school at institutions across the country.
