Job Description

Summary:

The Faculty in Anatomy is responsible for instruction in Anatomy to osteopathic medical students, and compliance with requirements and policies of the Division. They work closely with other faculty and Associate Deans in Preclinical and Clinical Education. The Faculty in Anatomy will participate primarily in teaching osteopathic medical students, research and scholarly activity, and service to the university and greater community. The selected candidate is expected to start immediately.

Classes will be an eclectic mix of didactics, learning in small groups, and self-directed learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Program Director of Anatomy and Associate Deans in developing and finalizing the curriculum for Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Histology and Embryology as part of the Preclinical curriculum in the first two years of medical school
  • Participates in and supervises as necessary the delivery of the course curriculum in Anatomy; ensures excellence in instructing osteopathic medical students
  • Participates in research and other scholarly activity; publications and presentations including students are strongly encouraged
  • Mentors and advises students in a group and individually; besides the preclinical years, continues instruction in all four years of the medical curriculum, as required
  • Continuously works for student improvement, preparation of students for the COMLEX and USMLE exams, and laying a strong foundation for osteopathic medical education
  • Participates in student assessment and evaluation and helps in remedial intervention for students that need it
  • Collaborates with other departments and research faculty in the proposed medical school and university
  • Participates in acquiring, setting up and maintaining all instructional materials needed in Anatomy
  • Participates in committees to enhance academics in the COM as instructed by the Dean
  • Follows all safety and departmental protocols and is up to date with training requirements
  • Is a role model for osteopathic medical students, faculty, the university and the community
  • Provides service to the COM, university and greater community

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education:
  • DO or MD; PhD in Anatomical Sciences or a related specialty may be considered if the candidate has significant experience in teaching medical students and research/scholarly activity
Experience:
  • At least 3 years’ experience teaching Anatomy in large and small-group settings to osteopathic medical students or other professional or graduate level students
  • Experience and comfort with preparation and maintenance of Anatomy instructional materials
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience and comfort in teaching Neuroanatomy, Histology and/or Embryology
  • Experience in teaching/reviewing Anatomy specific to OMM/OPP
  • Experience and eagerness in research and scholarly activity; developing research projects involving students
  • Publications or other scholarly activity
  • Board-certification if DO/MD

Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Pay: $80,000 - $100,000 Annually
