Faculty Lecturer (Contract Academic Staff) in Chinese Language

The Department of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, McGill University, invites applications for a full-time position of Faculty Lecturer (Contract Academic Staff) in Chinese Language beginning August 1, 2026 and ending July 31, 2029. The appointment may be renewed subject to performance review in the final year.

Minimum qualifications include an MA in linguistics, applied linguistics, Chinese literature, second language education, or a related field. Applicants should have experience teaching Chinese at the college or university level. The successful candidate will be expected to design and teach Chinese language courses across all levels and to engage in pedagogical and curricular innovation in line with the needs of the Department and the University. Candidates should possess native or near-native fluency in Chinese and an excellent command of English. Knowledge of French is an asset.

In addition, all McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Short-listed applicants will also be invited to submit a teaching portfolio that demonstrates teaching effectiveness (this may include course evaluations from the past five years, sample syllabi, materials related to in-class activities, extracurricular initiatives, and other similar evidence). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
