Background
Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU) is a newly established English-medium, research-based public university in Kuwait. AASU aims to provide an interdisciplinary environment for teaching and research. It also strives to nurture the development of novel and innovative solutions to address national and global challenges. AASU is accepting applications for faculty member positions for the Fall and Spring of 2026/2027.
The Basic Sciences Division in the College of Medicine & Health Sciences at AASU, in collaboration with King’s College of London, are designed to provide foundational knowledge in Anatomy, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Community Medicine, or any related field essential for advancing medical education and research. The curriculum emphasizes integrating theoretical knowledge with laboratory-based applications, preparing graduates for careers in medical research, diagnostics, and healthcare innovation. The division promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to address contemporary health challenges.
The College of Medicine & Health Sciences collaborates closely with research centers, including the Center for Health and Wellbeing and the Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research. These partnerships ensure that students and faculty are engaged in cutting-edge research and benefit from state-of-the-art facilities.
AASU is hereby inviting applications for the regular ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor for the 2026/2027 academic year. Candidates should have a proven track record for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and also have an established research record, demonstrated by publishing high-impact papers and other applicable research outcomes.
Expectations, Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The selected faculty members are expected to teach deep subject knowledge including teaching key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools and techniques, along with meaningful applications. Additionally, faculty members are also expected to work closely and maintain continuous affiliation with relevant research centers at AASU.
Specifically, faculty members at the college will be responsible for:
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary basic, applied, or policy research.
- Contributing to a thriving research program by engaging in national and international scientific collaborations.
- Receiving grants from local and international funding agencies.
- Mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
- Engaging in continuous scholarly activities and professional development.
- Serving on program-level, college-level, and university-level committees.
- Performing any additional duties assigned by the program chair, college dean, and AASU management.
Required Qualifications
- Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in medicine, biological science, chemistry, biomedical sciences, allied health sciences, nutrition, or related fields from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of very good or equivalent.
- The applicant's Basic Sciences positions must have a Ph.D. in Anatomy, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, biostatistics, or public health, child health, epidemiology, or subfields.
- Applicants must have a distinguished teaching record, including teaching experience at an academic institution.
- Applicants must have an active and continued proven track record of research, including high-quality publications in the relevant field in referred international journals listed and indexed in the Journal Citation Report (JCR). The h-index (ISI/SCOPUS) should be no less than 15 for Professor rank, 10 for Associate Professor rank, and 5 for Assistant Professor rank.
- Applicants must have a strong record of mentoring and advising students and supervising other student-related activities.
- Applicants must have the potential to attract funding from external funding sources/agencies, both locally and internationally.
- Applicants must have previous experience in administrative, academic, or executive committees at the level of the program, college, or university.
- Applicants must possess strong communication skills (in English), both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills, leadership skills in a multicultural and international environment with the ability to pursue and foster collaboration.
- All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ).
Required Experience
Applicants currently at least need to hold the position for which they are applying and have a minimum of 4 academic years (8 regular terms) of full-time residency in each rank before any academic promotion. The academic institution and the department or program where the academic experience was obtained must offer at least a bachelor’s degree.
Full Professor (Only Anatomy/Physiology/Pathology professorships available)
- A Full Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than 8 academic years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ), after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
- A Full Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ).
Associate Professor
- An Associate Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than 4 academic years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ), after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
- An Associate Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ).
Assistant Professor
- An Assistant Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than 2 academic years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ), after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
Required Documents
- Cover Letter - Introducing the applicant and stating what program and rank the applicant is applying for and why.
- Updated and comprehensive CV, which should include information on employment history, teaching experience, committees and administrative experience, full list of publications, research activities and grants, students’ supervision, clinical attachments, honors, awards, and others as applicable.
- Scanned copies of all academic degrees and transcripts.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the student evaluation records (at least the evaluation of three different courses).
- Statement of research interests and achievements.
- Statement of teaching philosophy and interests and achievements.
- Official documents of chronological experience.
- Names/affiliation and contact details of at least three professional referees.
- Copies of at least one citation report (Web of Science and/or Scopus).
Authenticated copies of all degrees must be provided by shortlisted applicants.
