Position Announcement
Utah Valley University invites applications for a
full-time three semester non-tenure track faculty
position in
School Counseling. The successful
candidate will bring a strong passion for school counseling, along
with a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship within the
field. This individual will teach graduate courses in School
Counseling and other courses per their training and experience. The
position begins January 1.

teacher education as well as graduate degrees in educational
leadership, school counseling, applied behavior analysis, and

Summary of Responsibilities
- Designs, prepares, and teaches graduate courses in School
Counseling, and undergraduate courses as needed. Prepares all
instructional materials (to include course syllabi, exams,
readings, instructions, visual aids, and other materials) in
electronic and paper format.
Maintains and submits accurate and current records concerning
student accountability, attendance, and performance.
Assists advisors, department chair, staff, and faculty in
maintaining an effective program. Engages with students and
colleagues across campus and in the community. Maintains office
hours.
Works with state entities and related UVU departments for
program development. Serves on university or state committees as
relevant to the program. Participates in the School of Education
accreditation process as needed.
Supports the scheduling of courses in School Counseling.
Assists with the field placements and site visits for School
Counseling. Supports the review of graduate applications and
interviews for students interested in School Counseling.
Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned
master's degree appropriate to the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a doctoral program with a master's degree
and license in School Counseling. Experience teaching subjects
within a School Counseling program to graduate students, as well as
promoting student retention and success. Experience or capacity to
serve as interim program director.
Licenses or Certifications
- Current School Counseling License
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
- Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories,
strategies, techniques, and discipline content in school counseling
and related courses.
- Knowledge of student management, motivation, and
evaluation.
- Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation
for school counseling.
- Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in school
counseling, college and career readiness, and related
areas.
- Evidence of substantial experience in the field of school
counseling in K-12 schools and/or a school district
environment.
Skills
- Skills in effective instructional strategies and
techniques.
- Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making
skills.
- Skills in modifying course content, developing original course
content, and delivering course content in person, online, or in
hybrid formats.
Abilities
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and
instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to relate to students in and outside of the
classroom.
- Ability to facilitate the growth and development of the
program.
- Ability to maintain a spirit of collegiality with colleagues,
students, and administrators.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and facilitate clinical
practicum experiences in public and private schools.
