Description

The Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine is seeking a clinically engaged psychiatrist to take a leadership role in Quality Improvement across Yale–New Haven Hospital’s acute psychiatric services, while maintaining a strong, patient-facing clinical practice. This is a hospital-based faculty position that combines direct clinical care with a meaningful opportunity to shape how psychiatric care is delivered, evaluated, and improved across the system.

This role is designed for a physician who wants to lead quality, safety, and operational improvement while remaining embedded in frontline care. Effort will be dedicated to serving as Physician Lead for Quality Improvement. Clinical work in inpatient psychiatry and/or the psychiatric emergency department will be based on interest and need.

As Physician Lead for Quality Improvement, the faculty member will partner closely with departmental and hospital leadership to:

  • Drive system-level improvements in clinical quality, patient safety, and care delivery processes
  • Identify and address inefficiencies in workflows and operations that impact patients and clinicians
  • Lead high-impact quality and safety initiatives across acute psychiatric settings
  • Align psychiatry-specific quality initiatives with YNHH’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities

Clinically, Yale–New Haven Psychiatric Hospital is a 118-bed acute care psychiatric facility serving adults, geriatric, transitional-age youth, and adolescents, with integrated emergency and step-down programs across two campuses. The successful candidate will be an engaged clinician, educator, and collaborator within this dynamic academic medical center.

Candidates must be board-eligible or board-certified in Psychiatry. Experience or interest in emergency psychiatry, consultation-liaison, and inpatient psychiatry is valued, as is a strong interest in scholarship related to quality improvement and health systems innovation.

This position includes a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with experience, and offers institutional support for clinical excellence, leadership development, and academic advancement.
