The School of Fashion at Kent State University invites applications for two full-time tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Fashion Merchandising. Both positions are 9-month appointments. All positions are subject to the availability of funds.

As part of the College of the Arts, the School of Fashion program enrolls approximately 1,400 Merchandising (B.S.) and Design (B.A./B.F.A.) majors with 34 full time faculty serving the undergraduate programs on the Kent campus as well as the interdisciplinary Masters in Fashion Industry Studies (M.F.I.S.). At the School of Fashion, our mission is to transform lives through creative fashion education in pursuit of a sustainable world. Our vision is to empower an ecosystem of socially responsible and inventive fashion thinkers.

Responsibilities of these positions include:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate course(s);
  • Establishing and maintaining a productive research program with refereed scholarship (peer-reviewed publications/conferences), and potential for extramural grants;
  • Conducting original research around pertinent fashion industry issues;
  • Performing appropriate service for the school, college, university, community, and national/international professional organizations

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree in Fashion, Apparel and Textiles, or related fields. Terminal degree must be earned by the start date.
  • Evidence of successful teaching, preferably at the university level, with expertise in at least two of the following areas:
    • Fashion Retail Technologies including AI, PLM, ERP, etc.
    • Research Methods and Predictive Analytics
    • Systems Thinking and Circular Approaches to Fashion
    • Product and Supply Chain Management
  • Demonstrated potential in research/creative endeavors relevant to the fashion industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with/potential for successful grant funding
  • Evidence of industry collaborations and/or connections
  • Ability to evolve in a highly interdisciplinary research ecosystem
  • Ability to integrate innovative technologies and pedagogical techniques in the classroom.
  • Experience with synchronous or asynchronous online teaching
